Even though there are lots of people that use lamps or other tabletop lights, ceiling light fixtures are still the major light source for the majority of rooms. Years ago this type of product was considered something that is only useful and not something to bring character to a room. These days you can choose from literally thousands of different types of fixtures of all shapes, colors and designs. If you are willing to spend the time searching you will be able to find the ceiling light fixtures that will match any design or feel of the room you have.

There are a ton of different types of ceiling mount light fixtures to select from depending on what statement you want the light to make in your space. One of the most popular types is the well-known chandelier. Although these are typically found in Victorian styles you can also find contemporary ones if you look hard enough.  Even if you have a commercial space you are not stuck lighting it with fluorescent bulbs to save money. If you are looking for something a little less fancy than a chandelier then you can always go with a standard flush mount light. Many think that flush mount lights are nothing any different than ceiling fan light fixtures. This is the case for some, but you can find some that will really make the statement you are looking for. Semi-flush mount lights are also available and they can be just as elegant as many of the chandeliers on the market.

If you are looking to create a beautiful effect in lieu of, or in addition to, ceiling lights then wall sconces are a great choice. These types allow you to do the work yourself since it only requires a nail to be hammered into the wall.

The fact of the matter is that no matter where you live you will need to have light. It takes just as much effort and money to put up ceiling light fixtures that are unattractive as it does to put up nice ones. The only time that is involved in selecting the perfect fixture is in the selection since the mounting takes the same amount of time. The selection of the perfect light fixture just happens to be the most fun part so there is no reason to skip it by choosing the first one that you see.

Question by amy mo: changing out light fixtures for combination ceiling fan/light fixtures?
im just replacing two light fixtures in my dining room with ceiling fan/light combos. The problem is arising with the switch on the wall which is the original from the 70's and is a combo on/off and dimmer. The first ceiling fan is somehow connected to the dimmer switch so the light is "sharing" power with the plain light at the other end of the ceiling. Will it all work itself out once I replace the ceiling light with the next ceiling fan?

not enough info to tell.... but DO NOT use a dimmer switch for the fan.... and be sure the electrical box is strong enough to hold up the fan..... it sounds like it was not prewired for a fan/light combo.... you may have to use the light switch to turn on the power and use the pull cords to turn the fan or light on and off
